Music of Montevideo–Canelones musical networks
Summary
Southern Uruguayan neighbourhood and town networks gain a regional selection connecting several distinct musical worlds.
Contemporary and trending
Doña Bastarda’s 2026 carnival result, the Piriápolis murga workshop and La Decana’s symphonic programme document different forms of ongoing work. [1] [2] [3]
History
Afro-Uruguayan candombe communities, theatrical murga, river-basin song and tropical dance bands have connected but different histories.
Genres
Candombe, Murga uruguaya, Tango, Milonga, Plena uruguaya, Cumbia pop, Rock and Nueva canción remain distinct listening routes.
Artists
Community comparsas, choral ensembles, songwriters and working dance bands all contribute; this selection does not assign one identity to every resident.
Boundary definition and research
The approximate southern corridor includes capital, Canelones and coastal exchange. Its higher priority preserves local navigation within the wider Uruguay and Río de la Plata selections.
