Summary

João Gomes is a Brazilian singer from Pernambuco whose deep, grainy voice connects romantic piseiro with the song and dance traditions of Forró. His work spans electronic accompaniment, vaquejada-associated repertoire and intimate accordion-led collaborations. He is a particularly clear example of the overlap between Traditional Forró and Contemporary Forró.[1]

Life and career

Gomes's relationship with the Pernambuco interior is central to his public musical identity. His rise through piseiro brought a regional singing style to a much wider audience without requiring him to abandon older forró repertoire. The project Pé de Serrita makes that connection explicit: its title refers to his home region, while its arrangements revisit traditional forró with musical production by Mestrinho.[2]

In 2025 Gomes joined Mestrinho and singer-guitarist Jota.pê for Dominguinho. Jota.pê's account describes a small session that expanded as the three exchanged songs and worked out arrangements together. The name evokes both a relaxed Sunday and accordionist Dominguinhos, whose influence runs through the collaboration.[3]

Music and style

Gomes's low register gives even brisk dance grooves a weight and intimacy different from the high, projecting vocals of much earlier band forró. Romantic address remains an organizing thread as collaborators and accompaniment change. His 2026 discussion of Meu Piseiro Brasileiro describes encounters with artists from MPB and trap within that romantic approach.[1]

The acoustic projects are not a separate identity that cancels his piseiro work. They make audible shared repertoire, accordion phrasing and the social pleasure of singing together. Equally, a collaboration does not turn every song by every guest into forró. Listen to the rhythmic treatment and the actual performance as well as the names on its cover.

Works and performances

Pé de Serrita is an entry point into Gomes's traditional repertoire; Dominguinho foregrounds the interplay of his voice, Jota.pê's guitar and singing, and Mestrinho's accordion. Meu Piseiro Brasileiro provides a contrasting route into contemporary collaborations. Together these projects explain why a single label such as pisadinha is too narrow for his recorded work.[2][1][3]
