Dhofari bar’ah
Summary
Dhofari bar’ah is a music and dance practice of southern Oman, associated with the Dhofari valleys and surrounding communities. It is distinct from northern Omani al-ayyala and other Dhofari forms.[1]
Contemporary and trending
The listening collection includes identified current and worthwhile earlier performances. Paired dancers, daggers, coordinated steps and drum-and-wind accompaniment shape traditional presentations. Contemporary vocal recordings identified as bar’ah offer additional listening entrances; tabal, sharh and other forms are not renamed bar’ah.
History
Local community transmission and folk ensembles sustain bar’ah in social and public settings. UNESCO documentation emphasizes differences among practicing groups rather than a single standardized national performance.[2]

Geography and communities
Salalah, the Dhofari valleys and neighboring mountain communities define the central landscape. Muscat’s national circulation does not make northern Oman an equal heartland.
Artists
Bahjat Salalah ensemble, Muayad Habras and Talal Khairallah provide identified examples of ensemble and recorded presentations.
