DJ Rampage (Sierra Leonean producer)
Summary
Reginald Daramy, known as DJ Rampage, is a Sierra Leonean producer, multi-instrumentalist and DJ. His collaborations with Drizilik connect Afrobeats with recognizable Sierra Leonean musical resources, including bubu.[1]
Life and career
He learned keyboard with Ernest Allan before studying at Ballanta Academy of Music. Ensemble work there developed alongside playing bass, guitar and percussion. His friendship and working relationship with Drizilik grew from that musical environment.[1]
Music and style
Childhood memories of Freetown's Oje performance, hunting music and bubu informed his production. He described seeking a local identity through an instrumental sound or vocal sample within a contemporary beat. DJ Khaled and Neptune were reference points for his approach to building a professional DJ career.[1]
Works and performances
He contributed to Drizilik's Shukubly (2018) and Ashobi (2022). On the latter, his work includes 'Ashobi', 'Hype', 'Fana Makit' and 'Awujo', alongside an executive-production role. Instrumental performance, beat-making and DJ appearances are linked parts of his practice.[1]
