Balochi music
Summary
Balochi music follows song, narrative and instrumental traditions across Iranian and Pakistani Balochistan. Regional repertories and modern arrangements remain differentiated within this cross-border route.[1]
Contemporary and trending
The listening collection includes identified current and worthwhile earlier performances. Dambura and bowed sorud can accompany narrative song, while doneli performance offers a contrasting wind-instrument entrance. Makran and Sarhadd repertories are not interchangeable; Brahui-language work is not automatically labeled Balochi.
History
Narrative shayr, local vocal forms and ceremonial instrumental practice have circulated through community and recording networks. Diaspora recordings add new arrangements without replacing the local histories.[2]
Musical characteristics
Dambura and bowed sorud can accompany narrative song, while doneli performance offers a contrasting wind-instrument entrance. Makran and Sarhadd repertories are not interchangeable; Brahui-language work is not automatically labeled Balochi.
Geography and communities
Southeastern Iran and western Pakistan form the connected frame, including the Makran coast and inland networks. Persian pop or generic Iranian music cannot substitute for this repertoire.
Artists
Mulla Kamalan, Shir Mohammad Espandar, Rostam Mirlashari and appropriately identified Balochi-language performances by Akhtar Chanal Zahri provide entrances.
