Summary

Drum and bass is a broad dance-music field built around fast drum patterns, powerful low frequencies and detailed rhythmic or textural construction. Britain is a broad core, including smaller towns and regional dance networks beyond London and Bristol. Czechia and connected central European cultures form a substantial adopted landscape. Related genres

Jungle is the closest overlapping category, with meaningful historical and stylistic distinctions that should remain audible. Breakbeat hardcore, dub, hip-hop and later bass musics supply other paths without becoming interchangeable. Liquid, neurofunk, jump-up and other labels identify further tendencies inside the broad field. Drum and bass is most rewarding when speed is heard alongside space, phrasing and social context.
