Music of Caiçara coastal musical networks

From MuGlobe.com

Summary

This coastal frame makes caiçara musical communities selectable across state boundaries. It preserves local differences while connecting the Lagamar, Paraná coast and northern paulista networks.

Contemporary and trending

Fandango Mestre Zeca’s 2025 Sonora Brasil collaboration and Fandango Bacurau de Ubatuba’s 2026 programme appearance show complementary routes of transmission and circulation. Touring activity is evidence of connection, not a reason to relocate the home landscape. [1] [2]

History

Collective work, fishing and cultivation, devotion and local sociability are part of the fandango world described by Iphan. The region is a lived coastal landscape rather than an untouched natural setting emptied of its communities. [3]

Genres

Fandango caiçara is the distinct regional anchor. Música caipira, Samba, Pagode, Sertanejo and Funk carioca connect other listening networks. Their inclusion avoids depicting contemporary coastal communities as isolated from wider popular music.

Artists

Família Pereira and the Mestre Zeca-associated musicians are specific gateways. Historical accounts of André Pires and João Firmino also reveal musical responsibilities and instrument craft beyond concert performance. [4] [5]

Boundary definition and research

The coastal outline narrows the older broad Southern Brazil frame and overlaps nearby metropolitan selections where appropriate. It does not claim identical modas along the whole coast. Itapoá’s documented inclusion in reassessment informs the southern reach without asserting an unverified final heritage decision. [6]

Connected coastal communities from northern São Paulo through the Lagamar and Paraná coast to Itapoá; the strongest documented fandango concentration lies in the central/southern part. Approximate overlapping musical landscape clipped to land; internal variation and connections beyond the edge remain explicit.
