Music of Arcoverde–Moxotó
Summary
Arcoverde–Moxotó provides a finer musical reading within the Agreste–Sertão transition. Local coco institutions and regional popular-music circuits coexist across town neighbourhoods, surrounding countryside and travel routes.
Contemporary and trending
Arcoverde’s 2025 opening programme brought Samba de Coco Fulô do Barro together with Desejo de Menina and Geraldo Azevedo. That mixed occasion demonstrates coexistence of locally rooted practice, romantic forró and wider northeastern song; it does not measure annual listening shares. [1]
History
Family groups, local gathering places and transmission sustain samba de coco, while performances and workshops connect Arcoverde with other Pernambuco towns. The municipal Rota dos Cocos describes music alongside craft and food production in a working cultural economy. [2]
Genres
Samba de coco de Arcoverde is locally distinctive. Forró pé-de-serra, Forró eletrônico, Pisadinha / piseiro, Baião, Xote brasileiro and other widely circulating songs share regional events. The specific footprint of a coco practice is narrower than the whole mixture region. [1]
Artists
Raízes de Arcoverde, Irmãs Lopes, Fulô do Barro and Trupé are documented groups. Galo Preto’s appearance and the teaching activities of Trupé also illustrate exchange and intergenerational learning rather than a closed list of locally born stars. [2] [3]
Boundary definition and research
The working area connects Arcoverde’s musical institutions with nearby Moxotó and transition-zone towns. Sources document the hub and its circulation more strongly than every edge; the boundary therefore remains approximate and overlapping, with no claim to survey all residents’ tastes. [2]
Arcoverde and connected Moxotó/Agreste–Sertão transition communities around Buíque, Pedra, Sertânia, Custódia and Ibimirim. An authored approximate listening subregion overlapping Agreste and Sertão. It is not a claim that every neighbouring town performs Arcoverde coco identically, nor a replacement for administrative Moxotó boundaries.
