Summary

Iranian alternative music is a listening route through independent bands and songwriters using rock, jazz, folk and other arrangements. It is a scene-based collection, not a claim that all its music has one style.[1]

Contemporary and trending

Individual releases and collaborations provide entry points into the scene today. Tehran provides a strong production reference, with other Iranian cities and diaspora communities participating. Regional traditions receive separate routes rather than being folded into a generalized Iranian sound.

History

Alternative production and performance have connected local musicians with audiences and collaborators abroad. Different access to public stages and recording circulation shapes how these works become available.[2]

Musical characteristics

Guitar bands coexist with reeds, keyboards, acoustic strings and theatrical vocals. Persian poetry, everyday language and hybrid arrangements receive different emphasis from one artist to another.

Geography and communities

Tehran provides a strong production reference, with other Iranian cities and diaspora communities participating. Regional traditions receive separate routes rather than being folded into a generalized Iranian sound.

Artists

Kiosk, O-Hum, Dang Show and Pallett illustrate the breadth of the collection. Their songs are evaluated individually.
