Corridos tumbados
Summary
Corridos tumbados name a contemporary música mexicana scene connecting corrido and guitar-led regional traditions with the phrasing, presentation and collaborations of urban popular music. It is a useful listening identity, with boundaries negotiated by performers and audiences.[1]
Contemporary and trending
Natanael Cano, Peso Pluma and collaborators provide prominent recorded examples. Releases also move into other styles: Cano explicitly distinguished the broader urban repertoire of “Porque la demora” from corridos tumbados.[2]
History
The label became prominent around the end of the 2010s, alongside earlier sierreño and corrido traditions. It identifies a changing scene rather than the origin of Mexican narrative song or all recent regional music.
Musical characteristics
Picked string figures, emphatic low parts and conversational or rhythmically displaced singing recur in many recordings. Instrumentation and production vary; trap collaboration does not mean that every track requires an electronic trap beat.
Geography and communities
Northwestern roots connect with wider Mexican listening and transborder recording circuits. The mushrooms illustrate regional affinity and adoption, not measured popularity or a ranking of cities.
Artists
The selected “Amor Tumbado”, “Soy el Diablo” remix and “PRC” demonstrate different collaborations. Recordings are classified individually rather than treating every song by Cano or Peso Pluma as the same style.
