Summary

Falamansa is a São Paulo-based Brazilian group associated with Forró universitário. Its combination of voice, guitar, accordion, zabumba and triangle helped bring acoustic forró to a new urban dance audience.[1]

History

The group developed in the late-1990s southeastern forró circuit. Its emergence connected younger São Paulo musicians and audiences with Northeastern instrumental experience, rather than inventing the underlying xote and baião rhythms anew. That history makes it an important bridge into Forró pé-de-serra.[1]

Music and repertoire

'Xote dos Milagres' and 'Falamansa Song' are representative entry points. Later work explored additional influences while retaining the dance and song foundation. A guitar or a new audience does not make the repertoire cease to be forró; equally, universitário names a particular scene history rather than every acoustic performance made today.

Members and collaborators

The documented core members are Tato on voice and guitar, Alemão on zabumba, Dézinho on triangle and percussion, and Waldir do Acordeom on accordion. Their different musical backgrounds contribute to the ensemble. Recorded collaborations with Trio Nordestino show the traffic between generations of acoustic forró.[1][2]
