Contemporary and trending
Ghana's gospel field accommodates both established church-song approaches and highly visible contemporary ensembles. Diana Hamilton's Adom, Joe Mettle's Kadosh and Team Eternity Ghana's Defe Defe provide contrasting introductions. The 2025 Ghana Music Awards separately recognised traditional and urban/contemporary gospel, while Joe Mettle received Gospel Artiste of the Year.
History
Ghanaian Christian music developed through local-language hymn and choral practice, church institutions and exchange with popular music. Highlife-related approaches are one resource within a broader field. The modern gospel industry has its own singers, choirs, concerts and media networks; a shared international Christian vocabulary does not remove that local history. [1]
Musical characteristics
Twi and other Ghanaian languages alongside English, solo/choral exchange, dance praise and live worship. Compare the lead voice with the ensemble response, the rhythmic backing with the phrasing of the text, and the difference between a communal refrain and an individually directed performance. The recordings below are particular examples, not a complete inventory of the category.
Geography and communities
A connected southern and middle Ghanaian landscape includes churches, towns, recording communities and performance audiences. Twi is prominent in many widely circulating recordings, but Ewe and other languages also matter. This category is not a proxy for all Ghanaian religion or for every neighbouring West African Christian community.
Artists
Diana Hamilton, Joe Mettle, Team Eternity Ghana led by Naana Asiedu. The selections below identify specific works and versions rather than assigning the entire output of an artist to this category. Uploader credits are explicitly labelled when the source does not securely identify every performer. A concert, choir video and studio release may represent different parts of the same scene.
Representative performances
Original repertoire dates, recording dates and video-publication dates describe different events. Unknown dates remain unknown. Historical examples are retained for reference and excluded from geographic autoplay.
