Summary

VIP, short for Vision in Progress, is a Ghanaian hiplife group rooted in Nima, Accra. This article covers its earlier VIP history and the later VVIP phase formed when Reggie Rockstone joined two continuing members.[1][2]

History

Friction assembled the early group from local rap-battle acquaintances. Its 1998 Bibi Baa O and 2000 Ye De Aba preceded his solo career. Personnel changed across the following years. By 2014 the addition of Rockstone marked the VVIP name and a new recording phase.[1][3]

Music and repertoire

The group's history is part of hiplife's movement from neighborhood and youth performance into the commercial recording scene. Rap, memorable refrains and collaborative singles carried the music to broader audiences. VVIP's 'Selfie' and 'Skolom' document the later phase; the latter features Sena Dagadu. A 'Selfie' remix featured Nigerian rapper Phyno.[2]

Members and collaborators

The well-known later VIP trio comprised Promzy, Prodigal and Lazzy. In VVIP, Zeal—the former Lazzy—and Prodigal worked with Reggie Rockstone. Earlier members included Friction and Bone. These changing credits matter when identifying a particular recording; the later lineup should not be assigned to the group's earlier albums.[2][4]
