Murshidi song

Summary

Murshidi song is a Bengali devotional song family centered on the relationship with a murshid, or spiritual guide. Address, longing, dependence and the search for understanding shape much of its poetry. Familiar images of boats, journeys or other everyday relationships can carry spiritual meaning rather than describe only literal events. The category is not all Bengali Muslim music, nor every song containing a revered teacher's name.
