Summary

Slift is a French trio from the Toulouse area whose music combines psychedelic rock, heavy riffing and expansive ensemble playing.[1]

Contemporary and trending

Fantasia, released in June 2026, turns toward more compact songs after the long forms of Ilion. Sub Pop's account describes the musicians deliberately tightening arrangements while retaining the complexity of their earlier playing.[2]

History

Jean and Rémi Fossat and Canek Flores formed the band in 2016. The EP Space Is the Key and the album La Planète inexplorée preceded Ummon (2020); Ilion followed in 2024.[1]

Music and repertoire

The early recordings connect garage-rock energy with stoner-rock weight. Ilion develops long, multi-part pieces with the scale associated with post-rock, as well as metal intensity and psychedelic guitar. These stylistic connections describe the band's materials; a reviewer's comparison with another act is not automatically proof of a direct personal influence. Fantasia introduces a different organizing influence: Jean Fossat's interest in Jorge Luis Borges and the use of an imagined town to explore politics and social reality.[1][2]

Selected recordings in MuGlobe:

Members and collaborators

Jean Fossat plays guitar and sings, Rémi Fossat plays bass, and Canek Flores plays drums. The trio's long-running rehearsal relationship is central to both extended improvisatory passages and the later, more concise writing.[2]
