Summary

Forró das Minas is a women-led collective working in Forró pé-de-serra and popular culture. Performance is one part of an activity that also includes teaching, production and discussion of women's participation in music.[1]

History

The collective's activities bring singers, composers, DJs, teachers and producers into shared projects. An Instituto Moreira Salles programme in 2023 documented its collaboration with Castanheiro, placing new participation alongside a long-standing São Paulo forró history.[1]

Music and repertoire

The documented IMS performance included Ariane Rodrigues on pífano and flute and Vanille Goovaerts on rabeca. Those timbres illustrate why Traditional Forró should not be confined to one all-male, accordion-only image. The tradition also lives through teaching and the creation of spaces in which musicians can work.

Members and collaborators

The collective is broader than a fixed touring band. Rodrigues and Goovaerts were the specifically credited guests for the 2023 concert; they should not be presented as an exhaustive membership list. Programmes and individual project credits identify who participates in each performance.[1]
