Ambasse bey is a coastal Cameroonian song-and-dance repertoire associated with Sawa/Littoral communities, including Nkam and Yabassi networks. Its relationship with Makossa is historical and musical, while directed dance figures and a continuing repertoire give it an identity of its own. [1] [2]

Sallé John’s 2022 interview describes an active performance and teaching practice. Douala’s 2024 Domaf programme subsequently presented him as a figure of musical transmission. Earlier coastal social-dance practice and later professional interpretation are connected phases. Makossa histories identify Ambasse bey among several resources in the genre’s development.
