Summary

Boshra AlSaadi is a Syrian-American singer, multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and producer whose solo project is SAADI. Her work connects experimental song, electronic production and ensemble performance, including bubu with Janka Nabay and The Bubu Gang.[1]

Life and career

Born in Damascus and raised in Pennsylvania, she entered New York's East Village anti-folk scene while studying at Cooper Union. She co-founded Looker and later worked with TEEN as well as Nabay's ensemble. Visual art and music developed as related activities.[1]

Music and style

Her solo arrangements combine analog synthesizers, programmed beats, guitars and layered voices. Diasporic storytelling and questions about society, technology and human life inform the writing. In the Bubu Gang, her clear backing voice and instrumental work joined Nabay's lead within a rhythmically interlocking band texture.[1][2]

Works and performances

The SAADI project includes 'Homo sapiens' and the album project Birds of Paradise. Its notes credit AlSaadi with writing and performance, with additional production by Chris Coady. Her collaborations also include Jason McMahon and production work for AJ Lambert, extending the relationship between her own songs and other musicians' recordings.[1]
