Research-led UK and Ireland listening expansion; preserve existing recordings, native bindings and unrelated live data.

New page

== Summary ==

Sliabh Luachra music is the instrumental and dance-music tradition associated with the Cork–Kerry border country and adjoining west Limerick. Polkas and slides are particularly important, alongside jigs, reels, airs and other repertoire.

== Contemporary and trending ==

Current recordings and concert performances keep this repertoire in circulation. The listening collection includes recent and worthwhile earlier versions, with performer and version credits retained; it does not treat an upload date as a composition date. Pádraig O’Keeffe, Denis Murphy, Julia Clifford, Jackie Daly, Matt Cranitch, Paudie O’Connor and Sliabh Notes provide historical and contemporary routes. Tribute performances credit the actual players rather than automatically naming the person commemorated.<ref>[https://www.sliabhluachra.com/sliabh-luachra/ Sliabh Luachra Music Trail: the musical region].</ref>

== History ==

Fiddle teaching, household music, dancing and later accordion playing connected local communities. Pádraig O’Keeffe, Denis Murphy and Julia Clifford are major historical figures, with continuing transmission through later musicians and gatherings.<ref>[https://www.sliabhluachra.com/sliabh-luachra/ Sliabh Luachra Music Trail: the musical region].</ref>

== Musical characteristics ==

Polka and slide rhythms, phrasing, bowing and ornament create distinctive dance lift. Fiddle and button accordion are prominent; the region’s music is not adequately represented by a generic Irish reel playlist alone.

== Geography and communities ==

The musical landscape crosses county boundaries around places such as Ballydesmond, Knocknagree, Gneeveguilla and Castleisland. It is a cultural region with diffuse edges, not a synonym for all of Munster.<ref>[https://www.sliabhluachra.com/sliabh-luachra/ Sliabh Luachra Music Trail: the musical region].</ref>

== Artists ==

Pádraig O’Keeffe, Denis Murphy, Julia Clifford, Jackie Daly, Matt Cranitch, Paudie O’Connor and Sliabh Notes provide historical and contemporary routes.
