Research-led UK and Ireland listening expansion; preserve existing recordings, native bindings and unrelated live data.

New page

== Summary ==

British hip-hop brings together rap, beat production and songwriting made within Britain’s overlapping local and diasporic scenes. It includes reflective album rap and melodic collaborations as well as harder rhythmic delivery; grime and UK drill retain their own, related routes.

== Contemporary and trending ==

Recent releases and live performances reveal different directions within this scene. Little Simz, Loyle Carner, Dave and Stormzy offer contrasting entry points. Features by named singers and fellow rappers remain credited on the particular recording. The route includes specific songs and versions, rather than assuming that every recording by those musicians belongs to the same category.<ref>[https://www.londonmuseum.org.uk/blog/grime-music-from-the-corner-to-the-mainstream/ London Museum: grime from the corner to the mainstream].</ref>

== History ==

Local rap developed through sound systems, clubs, record making and exchange with American hip-hop and Caribbean and African musical worlds. Jazz, soul and contemporary African and Caribbean influences vary by artist and recording.

== Geography and communities ==

London is a major production center, with distinct Midlands, northern English and Scottish scenes and listening across towns and countryside. A national listening connection does not assign one accent, ethnic identity or musical preference to every resident.<ref>[https://www.londonmuseum.org.uk/blog/grime-music-from-the-corner-to-the-mainstream/ London Museum: grime from the corner to the mainstream].</ref>

== Artists ==

Little Simz, Loyle Carner, Dave and Stormzy offer contrasting entry points.
