View source for Ukrainian folk fusion

== Summary ==

Ukrainian folk fusion reworks traditional vocal practices, instruments or repertoire through contemporary production and performance. It includes electro-folk and theatrical experiments while keeping village tradition distinct from its new arrangements.<ref name="ukr2026-onuka">[https://esu.com.ua/article-75477 Encyclopedia of Modern Ukraine: ONUKA], consulted 25 October 2026.</ref>

== Contemporary and trending ==

Go_A, ONUKA, DakhaBrakha, Dakh Daughters and YUKO provide different approaches. ONUKA’s current catalogue includes recent collaborations alongside its established releases; contemporary folk-connected music is not simply an archive of old songs.<ref name="ukr2026-fusion">[https://onuka.ua/en/posts ONUKA: official releases and contemporary electro-folk], consulted 25 October 2026.</ref>

== History ==

Folklore research, urban ensembles, theatre and electronic production have intersected over several generations. DakhaBrakha emerged from Kyiv’s Dakh arts setting, demonstrating how rural sources and urban experimentation can be connected.<ref name="ukr2026-dakh">[https://www.ukrainer.net/dakhabrakha/ Ukraїner: Kyiv through DakhaBrakha], consulted 25 October 2026.</ref>

== Musical characteristics ==

Traditional vocal timbres and melodic material can sit beside electronic beats, cello, percussion, synthesisers and staged performance. Some work re-arranges collected songs; other work uses folk-connected textures in new compositions.

== Geography and communities ==

Kyiv is an important production and theatrical node, while national touring and listening connect other cities and smaller communities. The Carpathians are one source landscape, not the exclusive location of all Ukrainian folk-derived music.

== Artists ==

The playlist separates distinct songs and versions. It does not classify a whole artist catalogue automatically, or count a full concert again alongside the same cuts. Traditional village song has its own related route.
