== Summary ==

Surinamese rap and dancehall is a regional listening collection spanning rapped, singjay and melodic urban releases. These overlapping scenes are kept visible within their Surinamese linguistic and production networks.

== Contemporary and trending ==

Local release catalogues feature collaborations and independent videos by artists including Lingo, Skoomsky, Psycho and D-Tek. Rap, dancehall and sung hooks often meet within a single release.<ref>[https://www.srananpoku.com/ Srananpoku: local release catalogue].</ref>

== History ==

The scene reflects local adaptation of international rap and Jamaican-derived dance music, alongside Surinamese languages, humor and studio networks. It is connected to the Netherlands and wider Caribbean circulation.<ref>[https://dwtonline.com/kenny-b-damaru-ray-neiman-en-jeangu-pioniers-van-surinames-nieuwe-geluid/ De Ware Tijd: pioneers of Suriname’s new sound].</ref>

== Musical characteristics ==

Electronic riddims, bass, rhythmic vocal delivery and hooks vary from track to track. A dancehall collaboration is identified as such instead of being presented as evidence that all Surinamese urban music is hip-hop.

== Geography and communities ==

Paramaribo and its neighboring settlements anchor production; recorded listening also reaches coastal districts and inland towns. This is a contemporary media route, not an ethnic territory.<ref>[https://nationaletop40.sr/category/music/ Nationale Top 40 Suriname: music].</ref>

== Artists ==

Lingo, Skoomsky, Psycho, Ori, D-Tek and HMG are entry points. Credits and collaborations remain attached to the individual performance.
