== Summary ==

Romani song in Serbia is a repertoire and listening route through Romani-language and related shared song, with several vocal and ensemble approaches. It foregrounds singers and songs alongside the better-known brass-band world. Roma music-making crosses languages, borders and genres; it is neither one uniform national sound nor reducible to an assumed occupation.<ref>[https://www.snailrecords.nl/discography/ Snail Records: discography of Ljiljana Buttler, Šaban and Mostar Sevdah Reunion]. The queue connects Šaban Bajramović’s recordings, Ljiljana Buttler’s collaborations with Mostar Sevdah Reunion and Zvonko Demirović’s song and celebration repertoire. It includes older recordings that remain meaningful and newer performances or popular arrangements. A collaboration or a singer’s background does not automatically make every song Romani repertoire; named works and actual performance context guide selection.

== History ==

Roma musicians have participated in urban entertainment, family celebration, recording and wider Balkan popular music over many generations. Bajramović and Buttler’s international release histories demonstrate networks that extend beyond Serbia. Snail Records’ discography distinguishes The Mother of Gypsy Soul, The Legends of Life and Šaban as particular projects rather than treating later uploads as new original recordings.<ref>[https://www.snailrecords.nl/discography/ Snail Records: discography of Ljiljana Buttler, Šaban and Mostar Sevdah Reunion]. == Musical characteristics ==

Expressive vocal phrasing, contrasting ensemble accompaniments and the relationship between verse, refrain and social use vary across these recordings. Some tracks invite dance while others centre a sustained song interpretation. Romani-language versions, Serbian-language shared repertoire and collaborations should keep their actual credits and language context; ethnicity alone does not establish a musical classification.

== Geography and communities ==

Niš and southern Serbia have strong represented song networks, with Belgrade and central/northern reception also mapped. The fields describe musical circulation, not where all Roma residents live or what they must listen to. National pop, rap and pop-folk remain part of these same regional mixes, and no separate homogeneous Roma territory is invented.

Šaban Bajramović, Ljiljana Buttler, Zvonko Demirović and their named collaborators provide contrasting examples. Muharem Šerbezovski’s regionally shared recordings are labelled as adopted Balkan repertoire rather than falsely presented as proof of Serbian birthplace or filming location. Mostar Sevdah Reunion retains its ensemble credit in each collaboration.
