Summary
The Zona da Mata Norte pernambucana is a connected town-and-countryside musical landscape. Cane-country histories, mobility and community associations shape a mixture that differs from both metropolitan Recife and the deeper Sertão.

Contemporary and trending
Community teaching and public events coexist with contemporary amplified forró, piseiro and brega. Iphan’s 2025 cavalo-marinho transmission project and AsCiPE’s 2023 gathering in Carpina document active organized participation. These sources establish living institutions rather than a measured ranking of tastes. <ref name="southamerica2026-pe-cavalo-teaching">Iphan, Na Pisada do Cavalo Marinho Estrela de Ouro, 2025. == History ==
Baque solto’s documentation emphasizes sugarcane workers and Mata Norte communities. Present rural and urban ties are part of that history, so the region is not described as isolated countryside preserving an unchanged past. <ref name="southamerica2026-pe-solto-registro">Iphan, Registro do Maracatu de Baque Solto. == Genres ==
Maracatu de baque solto, Cavalo-marinho, Ciranda pernambucana, Caboclinho pernambucano and Coco de roda have distinct ensemble and performance structures. Forró eletrônico, Pisadinha / piseiro and Brega pernambucano also circulate through the broader regional popular-music environment; heritage forms do not monopolize local listening. <ref name="southamerica2026-pe-caboclinho">Iphan, Caboclinho register. == Artists ==
Masters, poetic singers, banco musicians, dancers, community groups and organizers sustain complementary parts of musical life. The Estrela de Ouro transmission project and AsCiPE’s cirandeiro network make collective institutions visible alongside named stars.

Boundary definition and research
Nazaré da Mata, Aliança, Condado, Carpina and the Goiana connections anchor the working outline. It is a mixture region rather than a maracatu-only zone. Financial-sustainability research also cautions that recognition can coexist with serious practical difficulties; a strong cultural association is not evidence of a large commercial audience. <ref name="southamerica2026-pe-solto-economy">Iphan professional masters research, O que eu ganho com isso?, 2024. Northern Pernambuco cane-country towns and countryside, including Nazaré da Mata, Aliança, Condado, Carpina and connections toward Goiana and the metropolitan north. An approximate cultural transition area, not an official mesoregion polygon or a boundary around one genre. It overlaps metropolitan and Agreste affinities; coastal and interior communities have different combinations.
