== Summary ==

Negev/Naqab Bedouin music communities connect town neighborhoods, rural localities, families and celebrations in southern Israel. Dahiya is a defining listening route, alongside other Bedouin sung traditions and a wider Arabic repertoire. The region focuses on community settings around Rahat, Hura, Lakiya, Kuseife, Ar'ara in the Negev and Tel Sheva without claiming that these towns contain the whole musical landscape.

Performer channels and original wedding recordings make contemporary dahiya accessible through both named productions and extended events. Mo3en al-Aasam, Omar Abu Eyadeh and Odeh Abu Qrenat publish performances under their own names.<ref name="negev-moen">[https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-ZIXmEpGZsMNYWpqmIyv3Q/videos Mo3en al-Aasam: performer releases]</ref><ref name="negev-omar">[https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgcjXjTfUx-djbkLPBavvsA/videos Omar Abu Eyadeh: performer releases]</ref><ref name="negev-odeh">[https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwXOyCIw1Uw-aVGMjbDH9Ew/videos Odeh Abu Qrenat: performer releases]</ref> Rahat's cultural palace also hosted a Tarshiha Arabic Music Ensemble program of television songs in August 2025, demonstrating a concert repertory beyond Bedouin dance practices.<ref name="negev-rahat">[https://www.eventati.org/event-details/mraya Eventati: Maraya, Rahat Cultural Palace, August 23, 2025]</ref>

== History ==

Fieldwork published in 2022 documents inherited dahiya and its contemporary transformations, including exchanges with other Palestinian wedding musicians. The result is a living tradition with generational differences, not a single unchanged historical style.<ref name="negev-study">[https://journals.pan.pl/Content/125908/PDF/2022-FORI-04.pdf?handler=pdf Letizia Cerqueglini: Negev Bedouin daḥīyah Songs, Folia Orientalia 59 (2022)]</ref>

== Genres ==

Dahiya should remain distinct in listening: communal sung dance is not equivalent to every dabke performance or Arabic pop song. Hajeeni and other poetic practices provide neighboring routes that require recording-level identification. The Jerusalem Academy's Arabic folk-music curriculum distinguishes Bedouin material, rural weddings and dabke, reflecting the importance of context and form.<ref name="negev-academy">[https://jamd.ac.il/sites/default/files/Oriental%20Music.pdf Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance: Arabic folk-music curriculum]</ref> Arabic pop, tarab and Palestinian hip-hop connect community listening to broader cultural networks; no one genre stands for everything a Bedouin listener hears.

== Artists ==

Fouad Abu Bneih and Khalil al-Tarshan appear in original wedding recordings alongside other singers and ensembles. The local recorder Kamel Abu Sherif documents occasions and credits participants, adding evidence of music as a shared event rather than only a studio product.<ref name="negev-kamel">[https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQ5jSwI9_iQPXCaY2MzEVfQ/videos Kamel Abu Sherif: original wedding recording channel]</ref> The performer and the recording producer have different roles, both useful when following a musical community.

== Boundary definition and research ==

The selected pieces mark compact community hubs across the northern Negev. They preserve a different mixture from neighboring Beer Sheva and other city regions while acknowledging overlap. Family ties, performers and celebrations reach smaller rural communities beyond the shapes. This is therefore a listening guide, not an exhaustive map of recognized or unrecognized localities, tribal territories or individual taste. The detached outlines are approximate and do not make the spaces between them musically empty.
