View source for Music of Munim and lower Itapecuru musical communities

== Summary ==
The Munim and lower Itapecuru frame identifies a connected eastern mainland landscape with strong orquestra-boi affiliations. It remains a mixed listening region with links to the capital and the wider interior.

== Contemporary and trending ==
Boi de Axixá and Boi de Morros were both named in the 2026 Maranhão de Reencontros programme. Such capital appearances make regional organizations visible while their community bases remain important. <ref name="southamerica2026-ma-stage-2026">[https://www.cultura.ma.gov.br/noticias/tambor-cacuria-e-bumba-bois-agitam-o-maranhao-de-reencontros-neste-dia-17-de-maio Secma, Tambor, cacuriá e bumba bois no Maranhão de Reencontros, 12 May 2026]. == History ==
Regional affiliation is carried through groups, repertoire and participant networks. The musical distinction is not simply that instruments are amplified or that a performance happens on a city stage.

== Genres ==
[[Bumba-meu-boi de orquestra]] is the principal new distinction. Its wind/string arrangements differ from other sotaques. [[Reggae maranhense]], forró and brega connect broader listening circuits; inclusion does not assert equal popularity at every location. <ref name="southamerica2026-ma-five">[https://imperatriznoticias.ufma.br/os-cinco-sotaques-do-bumba-meu-boi-do-estado-do-maranhao/ UFMA Imperatriz Notícias, Os cinco sotaques do Bumba Meu Boi, 18 May 2022]. Axixá and Morros are specific organizations with new and older toadas in the listening collection. Lima’s study additionally shows orquestra repertoire entering instrumental education, another mode of musical continuity. <ref name="southamerica2026-ma-topics">[https://tedebc.ufma.br/jspui/handle/tede/3254 Norlan Aragão Lima, O estudo da teoria das tópicas nas toadas do bumba meu boi, UFMA, 2020]. == Boundary definition and research ==
The outline follows an approximate connected mainland landscape, with overlap and a gradual southern transition. Brejo’s Vila das Almas example is outside this region’s centre and is retained in the broader boi article: interior diversity should not be forced into the Munim label. <ref name="southamerica2026-ma-brejo-2025">[https://portalpadrao.ufma.br/site/noticias/pesquisa-sobre-sonoridades-do-bumba-meu-boi-marca-doutorado-de-egressa-do-campus-sao-bernardo-e-conquista-historica-para-o-interior Geovanna Selma, UFMA research report on Daciléia Lima Ferreira, 4 September 2025]. Relevant public text read on 22 October 2026.</ref>

Rosário, Axixá, Morros and connected Munim/lower Itapecuru towns and countryside, with overlapping routes to São Luís and the wider Maranhão interior. Approximate overlapping musical landscape clipped to land, not an administrative boundary or audience survey. Internal differences and connections beyond the outline remain explicit.
