Yela: The repertoire belongs to Pulaar social and praise-song histories in Futa Toro. Its modern popular adaptations should be distinguished from Pékan and other occupational or community repertoires.

Genres
Azawan — Hassani-speaking iggawin art and popular-song traditions organized through named modal paths, voice, tidinit lute and ardin harp, with modern ensemble transformations.

Yela — Pulaar song/dance repertoire associated with praise, social relationships and later amplified popular performance; not a label for every Fulani music.

Artists
Azawan: Dimi Mint Abba, Sidaty Ould Abba, Malouma and Noura Mint Seymali mark different generations and creative approaches. Their careers connect family transmission, national audiences and international stages.

Yela: Baaba Maal, Thiédel Mbaye, Abou Diouba and Ousmane Gangué illustrate the wider field described in Mauritanian music reporting. Their entire catalogues should not be assigned to one genre automatically.
