<!-- Region ID: us-eastern-oklahoma. New broad region; paired with a reduced western/central Oklahoma component of us-west-texas-red-river. -->
== Summary ==
Eastern Oklahoma connects Tulsa and the Arkansas River towns with the Ozark and Ouachita uplands, southeastern forests and Red River communities. Country, rock, pop, hip-hop, R&B and religious music form a broad everyday mixture. More distinctive affinities include Native-language and community singing, gospel and fiddle traditions, and Tulsa's intertwined Black, country, rock and independent musical worlds. The Oklahoma Historical Society recognizes this eastern cultural geography separately from the western Plains and the central transition.<ref name="eok-regions">[https://www.okhistory.org/publications/enc/entry?entry=CU001 Cultural Regions], John Milbauer, Encyclopedia of Oklahoma History and Culture. Full regional account consulted 18 October 2026; establishes eastern Upland/Lowland South, western Plains and central/midwestern transitions, not current genre percentages.</ref>

Cherokee Nation's current account of its National Holiday describes family reunions and audiences gathering for gospel, bluegrass, fiddling, youth-choir music and powwow dancing around Tahlequah.<ref name="eok-cherokee">[https://cherokee.gov/about-the-nation/cherokee-national-holiday/ Cherokee National Holiday], Cherokee Nation, updated 13 August 2026. Tulsa supplies a different, complementary perspective. The Fire in Little Africa artists describe hip-hop as a form of community storytelling connected with Greenwood and Black Wall Street. Their accounts explain local musical meaning beyond a musician's birthplace.<ref name="eok-fila">[https://www.kosu.org/podcast/songwriters-tour-riders/2021-06-03/everything-is-us-tulsa-hip-hop-collective-educates-tells-own-story-with-fire-in-little-africa 'Everything Is Us': Tulsa Hip-Hop Collective Educates, Tells Own Story With Fire In Little Africa], Matthew Viriyapah, KOSU/Oklahoma State University, 3 June 2021. == History ==
Native nations, forced removal, Black towns and communities, agriculture, mining, oil and migration shaped different parts of the east. Gospel singing, fiddle music and social dancing connected communities without erasing their identities. Tulsa became an important meeting place for Western swing, jazz and later popular music. Guy Logsdon's folklife scholarship places these musical practices within a larger social history, including churches and dance gatherings.<ref name="eok-folklife">[https://www.okhistory.org/publications/enc/entry?entry=FO012 Folklife], Guy Logsdon, Encyclopedia of Oklahoma History and Culture, 2010, updated 29 July 2024. == Genres ==
Country, rock/pop, hip-hop and R&B offer broad contemporary routes. Gospel, Native-language hymnody and community repertoires, fiddle music, bluegrass, Western swing and blues reveal more specific affinities. Cherokee, Choctaw, Muscogee, Chickasaw and other musical communities should be approached on their own terms; they are not one interchangeable Native genre.

The Cherokee National Youth Choir offers a route into language and community singing. Vernon Johnson, The Close and The Williamsons appeared in Choctaw Nation's 2026 program. Fire in Little Africa, including Steph Simon, Dialtone and Ayilla, opens a contrasting path through Tulsa hip-hop and community memory.<ref name="eok-cherokee" /><ref name="eok-choctaw" /><ref name="eok-fila" />

== Boundary definition and research ==
The working extent follows the Oklahoma Historical Society's established '''Eastern''' region: the Ozark/Arkansas River and Ouachita–Kiamichi country, the former Indian Territory framework, Osage County and the Chickasaw-area extension through south-central counties. Its published county map supplies a reproducible 41-county starting geography, including Tulsa and the western arm through Grady, McClain, Stephens and Jefferson. It is a cultural/historical framework, not a tribal jurisdiction or a surveyed present-listening perimeter.<ref name="eok-map">[https://www.okhistory.org/pdf/ohs-histcontext.pdf OHS Historic Context Review], Oklahoma Historical Society, adopted 2018, reviewed 2019; printed pages 185–187, including the county map credited to OHS 2007. Relevant text and complete map visually inspected. Defines Eastern, Central and Western regions using environment, historical themes and public perception.</ref>

The Ozarks remains an overlapping, more geographically specific region in the northeast; southeastern “Little Dixie” has stronger southern connections. Tulsa's urban/suburban networks differ from rural towns and Native community gatherings. Relationships continue into Arkansas, Missouri and Texas; the Oklahoma line does not create a sudden change in music. MuGlobe uses the established framework to combine these documented settings, with stronger confidence in their particular affinities than in one identical eastern audience profile.

'''Working map outline, October 18, 2026.''' The stored outline includes a 0.02-degree atlas-edge allowance and 0.001-degree topology-preserving simplification.<ref name="muglobe-working-geography">[https://www.naturalearthdata.com/downloads/10m-physical-vectors/10m-physical-labels/ Natural Earth regional atlas geography].
