== Summary ==

Irish rock and indie connects guitar bands and independent songwriting across Ireland, from post-punk and noise-oriented music to melodic alternative rock. It is a contemporary scene route with substantial differences between bands.

== Contemporary and trending ==

Recent releases and live performances reveal different directions within this scene. Fontaines D.C., NewDad, Pillow Queens, Sprints, the Murder Capital and Ash illustrate different strands. The route includes specific songs and versions, rather than assuming that every recording by those musicians belongs to the same category.<ref>[https://partisanrecords.com/artists/fontaines-dc Partisan Records: Fontaines D.C.].</ref>

== History ==

Irish independent music developed through local venues, recordings, radio and international exchange. Earlier alternative bands and newer post-punk and indie groups share touring circuits without belonging to one generation or sound.<ref>[https://www.ukmusic.org/research-reports/hometown-glory-2025/ UK Music: Hometown Glory 2025].</ref>

== Musical characteristics ==

Distorted and clean guitars, bass and drums support approaches ranging from concise melodic songs to insistent spoken vocals, abrasive textures and spacious arrangements.

== Geography and communities ==

Dublin’s venues and recording networks are prominent, alongside Galway, Cork, Limerick, Belfast and other regional scenes. Artists may relocate while retaining musical connections; a map association is not a claim about the recording studio’s address.<ref>[https://partisanrecords.com/artists/fontaines-dc Partisan Records: Fontaines D.C.].</ref>
