== Summary ==

Guyanese reggae and dancehall is a regional collection for roots-oriented songs, dancehall and related local collaborations. It presents the two connected practices explicitly rather than calling every reggae recording dancehall.

== Contemporary and trending ==

Guyanese singers and producers participate in local stages and international riddim and collaboration circuits. The collection combines durable earlier work with contemporary releases.<ref>[https://guyanachronicle.com/2012/12/08/first-born-the-reggae-band-thats-impacting-the-world/ First Born: Guyanese reggae practice].</ref>

== History ==

Jamaican-derived reggae and dancehall were localized through Guyanese performers, bands, sound systems and recording studios. Artists also developed careers abroad while retaining connections with Guyanese audiences.<ref>[https://portal.gov.gy/services/mashramani-and-national-cultural-events-participation Guyana Ministry of Culture: national cultural competitions].</ref>

== Musical characteristics ==

Roots reggae often emphasizes a sung message and offbeat pulse; dancehall can use faster vocal phrasing, electronic riddims and compact hooks. Individual recordings may bridge those approaches.

== Geography and communities ==

Georgetown is a major stage and recording hub, with listening and performances extending through towns, mining communities and the interior. This broad contemporary route coexists with village-specific traditions.<ref>[https://portal.gov.gy/services/mashramani-and-national-cultural-events-participation Guyana Ministry of Culture: national cultural competitions].</ref>

== Artists ==

Natural Black, First Born, Timeka Marshall and Lil Million provide contrasting entries. A musician’s birthplace alone is not the criterion: the collection follows documented Guyanese scene and audience connections.
