Summary
Flávio José is a Brazilian singer and accordionist from Monteiro, Paraíba, closely associated with Forró pé-de-serra and the living repertoire of Traditional Forró.

Life and career
His recording career provides a continuing link between Northeastern dance music, romantic song and newer compositions. He is also an important interpreter of other writers: Dorgival Dantas's discography records his performances of 'Paixão Escondida' and 'Casa Velha de Sapê'.

Music and style
Accordion-led accompaniment and an expressive singing voice are central to his musical identity. Traditional here describes an approach and repertoire, not a requirement to record only old songs. His work also connects with younger acoustic-forró musicians; Falamansa names his music as an inspiration for a later xote.

Works and performances
Me Diz Amor and his interpretations of Dorgival's songs offer useful listening routes. Compare song, singer and songwriter credits: a composition's movement between performers is part of the continuity of the tradition.
