== Summary ==

Fanø dance music is the living local fiddle-and-dance repertoire of the island of Fanø, particularly Sønderho and Nordby. Sønderhoning, fannik and related dances have specific relationships between musicians, dancers and phrasing.<ref>[https://www.fondengamlesonderho.dk/sonderhomusik Fonden Gamle Sønderho: living music tradition].</ref>

== Contemporary and trending ==

Local gatherings and Sønderhodag continue the tradition. Concert performers also reinterpret its melodies; those settings are labelled as arrangements rather than presented as identical to playing for a local dance.<ref>[https://folkdans.dk/klubber/syd/fano/ Folkedans Danmark: Sønderho Fanø].</ref>

== History ==

Family transmission, including the Sonnichsen and Brinch lines, is central to the continuity described by Fonden Gamle Sønderho. The tradition belongs to a community practice rather than merely a collection of tunes in print.<ref>[https://www.fondengamlesonderho.dk/sonderhomusik Fonden Gamle Sønderho: living music tradition].</ref>

== Musical characteristics ==

The fiddle’s articulation and rhythmic shaping interact with dance movement. Repeated melodic patterns acquire character through timing, ornament and emphasis. Accompanied and chamber arrangements can reveal the melody while changing its practical dance function.

== Geography and communities ==

The strongest geographic emphasis belongs on Fanø itself, with modest nearby reach toward Esbjerg and a smaller adopted Danish folk-network presence. It must not become a large uniformly strong circle over all Jutland.

== Artists ==

Peter Uhrbrand, Niels Thorlund, Det Yderste Hav and other credited local musicians carry different versions. Danish String Quartet performances are identified as chamber arrangements of Fanø material.
