Summary
E. K. Nyame (1927–1977), born Emmanuel Kofi Nyame, was a Ghanaian guitarist, composer and bandleader who helped connect highlife with the touring theatre known as concert party. His use of Akan songs made local language and musical storytelling central to that stage practice.<ref name="nyame-archive">[https://www.fondation-langlois.org/html/e/page.php?NumPage=2270 Ghana’s Highlife Music Collection: E.K. == Life and career ==
School fife-band leadership and church singing preceded his work as a guitarist. He learned from hearing Appiah Agyekum on radio, then played in his band before forming E.K.'s Band. The museum account dates his combination of a concert-party trio with the guitar band to 1952. His extensive recording career included Decca, Queenophone and HMV.

Music and style
His musical foundation included palm-wine music: voice and guitar in informal social settings. Bringing that language into concert party changed an entertainment form previously strongly associated with imported English-language songs and ballroom repertoire. The innovation joined composition, speech and dramatic presentation; it was subsequently developed by ensembles including the African Brothers.<ref name="nyame-allmusic">[https://www.allmusic.com/artist/ek-nyame-mn0000792786 AllMusic: E.K. == Works and performances ==
The museum preserves the sleeve of Gethsemani, attributed to E.K. Nyame Professional Band around 1970. Such records document both his compositions and the ensemble setting in which they circulated. His importance extends beyond a catalogue of songs to the relationship he established between guitar-band highlife and vernacular theatre.
