== Summary ==

Catalan rumba is an urban popular style associated with Barcelona’s Gitano communities, combining percussive guitar, voice and dance-oriented rhythmic exchange. Its identity is not equivalent to every recording labelled rumba in Spanish.<ref>[https://amp.rtve.es/play/noticias/20260318/rumba-catalana-identidad-fiesta/16973673.shtml RNE: Rumba catalana, identidad, relato y fiesta, March 2026]</ref>

== Contemporary and trending ==

Current groups and family networks continue the style through celebrations, concerts and recordings. Sabor de Gràcia and Muchacho y los Sobrinos provide living entrances alongside earlier Peret and Gato Pérez repertoire.<ref>[https://amp.rtve.es/play/noticies/20240729/rumba-catalana-grups-actuals/16197908.shtml RTVE Catalunya: seven current Catalan rumba groups, 29 July 2024]</ref>

== History ==

The style took shape in the twentieth century through musicians’ exchanges and successive reinventions. Later popular groups combine rumba with rock, ska and other styles; those collaborations are identified as such.

== Musical characteristics ==

The guitar’s rhythmic ventilador technique, handclaps, strong vocal delivery and dance pulse are characteristic. Instrumentation and production vary, and a crossover’s actual arrangement matters more than an artist’s general reputation.

== Geography and communities ==

Barcelona and the surrounding Catalan landscape form the strongest field, with softer adopted reach elsewhere in Spain. A community’s contribution is recognised without claiming ownership of every listener or treating a cultural field as a demographic boundary.

== Artists ==

Peret, Gato Pérez, Sabor de Gràcia and Muchacho y los Sobrinos anchor the collection; selected Estopa and La Pegatina works show explicitly labelled popular extensions.
