== Summary ==

Orquestra is a Maranhão boi sotaque distinguished by wind and string parts within its song, percussion and dance ensemble. It is not a synonym for all staged boi music. <ref name="southamerica2026-ma-five">[https://imperatriznoticias.ufma.br/os-cinco-sotaques-do-bumba-meu-boi-do-estado-do-maranhao/ UFMA Imperatriz Notícias, Os cinco sotaques do Bumba Meu Boi, 18 May 2022]. == Contemporary and trending ==

The published May 2026 Maranhão de Reencontros programme identifies both Boi de Morros and Boi de Axixá as orquestra groups. Present-day public performance remains connected with named local organizations. <ref name="southamerica2026-ma-stage-2026">[https://www.cultura.ma.gov.br/noticias/tambor-cacuria-e-bumba-bois-agitam-o-maranhao-de-reencontros-neste-dia-17-de-maio Secma, Tambor, cacuriá e bumba bois no Maranhão de Reencontros, 12 May 2026]. == History ==

The Munim-facing towns and connections to São Luís give the form a regional history within the larger boi complex. A specific founding anecdote should not substitute for the histories of different groups.

== Musical characteristics ==

Brass and reed instruments, with string parts such as banjo, distinguish these arrangements from the massed-clapper emphasis of matraca. Melodic and harmonic patterns also matter: Lima’s study compares orquestra, Ilha and Baixada toadas in teaching. <ref name="southamerica2026-ma-five">[https://imperatriznoticias.ufma.br/os-cinco-sotaques-do-bumba-meu-boi-do-estado-do-maranhao/ UFMA Imperatriz Notícias, Os cinco sotaques do Bumba Meu Boi, 18 May 2022]. == Geography and communities ==

The map centres Rosário, Axixá, Morros and their connected Munim countryside, with a weaker São Luís performance and participant network. These fields describe repertoire communities rather than venue locations.

== Artists ==

Boi de Axixá and Boi de Morros provide already reviewed examples. Older repertoire and 2026 releases coexist in the retained collection; an upload year alone does not date a composition.

== Representative performances ==
Axixá and Morros examples reassociated with their explicitly documented orquestra identity; original rows preserved.

Represent a connected Munim landscape and its smaller capital circuit, without replacing the mixed regional identity.

The fields express editorial judgments about relative musical affinity and reach, not measured audience shares. Radius is the zero edge of a linear fade; same-genre overlaps combine by maximum.
