Its Sundanese roots coexist with educational orchestras and national and international performance.<ref name="islands2026-angklung">[https://ich.unesco.org/en/RL/indonesian-angklung-00393 Indonesian Angklung], accessed 24 October 2026.</ref>

== Contemporary and trending ==

Community performance, school ensembles and interactive concerts keep collective playing visible. Saung Angklung Udjo presents both ensemble arrangements and participatory music-making.

=== Contemporary listening and repertoire ===

The listening collection now draws on a wider set of individually identified musical recordings and performances. It retains worthwhile earlier repertoire alongside recent discovery, distinguishes actual versions and collaborators, and keeps original-release or session dates unknown where the source does not establish them. The player’s recording credits provide the specific performance context; different uploads of the same master are not counted as different music.

== History ==

The practice has connections with agricultural and life-cycle ceremonies. Later educational and concert settings extended the repertoire without making the older contexts interchangeable with the modern orchestra.

== Musical characteristics ==

Bamboo frames and tubes produce a ringing, rattling tone when shaken. Coordinated entries allow many players to make one phrase; instrumental tuning and arrangement determine the available repertoire.

== Geography and communities ==

West Java is the principal field in this first map pass. Wider Indonesian circulation is recognized without painting every island as an equally strong local tradition.

== Artists ==
