== Summary ==

Reykjavík, the surrounding capital municipalities, Reykjanes and the connected southwest support a dense mixture of pop, rap, electronic music, bands, jazz and composed music. The area is a connected performance and production landscape rather than a separate peak for every municipality.<ref>[https://icelandairwaves.is/lineup/ Iceland Airwaves 2026 programme].</ref><ref>[https://www.icelandmusic.is/en/news/jazzhatid-reykjavikur-hefst-a-morgun-- Iceland Music: Reykjavík Jazz 2025].</ref><ref>[https://era.ed.ac.uk/bitstream/handle/1842/35856/Thoroddsen2019.pdf?sequence=1 Þóróddsen: A few notes about scenes in Iceland].</ref>

== Boundary definition and research ==

The southwest listening frame gives additional emphasis to rap and electronic production while retaining folk song and the broader Icelandic repertoire. Its approximate inland and northern edges indicate changing emphasis, not a sudden change in residents’ tastes. The frame is an editorial synthesis of musical connections. It overlaps the national view and retains a broad mix rather than assigning one music style to every resident. <ref>[https://icelandairwaves.is/lineup/ Iceland Airwaves 2026 programme].</ref><ref>[https://www.icelandmusic.is/en/news/jazzhatid-reykjavikur-hefst-a-morgun-- Iceland Music: Reykjavík Jazz 2025].</ref><ref>[https://era.ed.ac.uk/bitstream/handle/1842/35856/Thoroddsen2019.pdf?sequence=1 Þóróddsen: A few notes about scenes in Iceland].</ref>
