== Summary ==

Caboclinho pernambucano joins gaita-led music, percussion and choreographed collective performance in Pernambuco. Indigenous ancestry and imagery, Afro-Indigenous religious relationships and local carnival organizations matter to its identity. This particular tradition should not stand in for the music of every Indigenous people in Brazil. <ref name="southamerica2026-pe-caboclinho">[https://bcr.iphan.gov.br/bens-culturais/caboclinho/ Iphan, Caboclinho register]. == Contemporary and trending ==

Community associations and practitioner-led research helped establish the heritage record. Continued performance depends on learning instruments, steps, costumes and group responsibilities together. Public recognition identifies a cultural practice; it does not by itself measure its audience or resolve the conditions under which groups work. <ref name="southamerica2026-pe-caboclinho-council">[https://portal.iphan.gov.br/uploads/atas/ata_da_84_reuniao_conselho_consultivo.pdf Iphan, 84th Conselho Consultivo proceedings, 2016]. == History ==

The Pernambuco record documents connections among Recife-area groups and Mata Norte towns including Goiana, Itaquitinga and Tracunhaém. Historical representation and living religious/community identities require careful attribution rather than a generic story of a supposedly vanished Indigenous past. <ref name="southamerica2026-pe-caboclinho">[https://bcr.iphan.gov.br/bens-culturais/caboclinho/ Iphan, Caboclinho register]. == Musical characteristics ==

The gaita is a small flute whose melodic lines interact with percussion and the sounding bows and arrows known as preacas. Bodily movement and instrumental action are coordinated. The object that appears to be a prop also contributes musical sound, so an audio-only genre description leaves something important out. <ref name="southamerica2026-pe-caboclinho">[https://bcr.iphan.gov.br/bens-culturais/caboclinho/ Iphan, Caboclinho register]. == Geography and communities ==

Two overlapping fields distinguish the Recife metropolitan sphere and northern Mata/coastal towns. They express connected groups and circulation, not a continuous ethnic territory. Other traditions called caboclinho elsewhere require their own descriptions. <ref name="southamerica2026-pe-caboclinho">[https://bcr.iphan.gov.br/bens-culturais/caboclinho/ Iphan, Caboclinho register]. The council proceedings describe community research with Águia Negra in Itambé and the Caboclinhos association. Group identity, instrumental leadership and collective choreography are essential credits; the catalogue’s recording selections retain the names actually supplied by their sources. <ref name="southamerica2026-pe-caboclinho-council">[https://portal.iphan.gov.br/uploads/atas/ata_da_84_reuniao_conselho_consultivo.pdf Iphan, 84th Conselho Consultivo proceedings, 2016]. Overlapping metropolitan and Mata Norte community fields describe this named practice without implying a single Indigenous identity or territorial boundary.

The fields express editorial judgments about relative musical affinity and reach, not measured audience shares. Radius is the zero edge of a linear fade; same-genre overlaps combine by maximum.
