== Contemporary and trending ==
Artist-first searches locate Rich Edem’s own releases and Minister Matthieu’s live ensemble credits. Work-level searches also locate Beninese Christian productions that a broad English query misses. Searches for Benin require care: Nigerian Edo/Benin City Gospel is a different geographic context.

== History ==
Local church choirs and commercial Christian performers share a regional environment but have different audiences and working practices. The examples represent several artists and languages, rather than asserting one national sound or a common origin for every Christian tradition in the two countries.

== Musical characteristics ==
Lead-and-response singing, percussion, layered electric ensembles and repeated praise refrains can connect church performance with local dance vocabularies. A song’s Christian content and particular arrangement must be established: neither an Afropop performer’s nationality nor the word God in a title is enough.

== Geography and communities ==
A broad coastal and southern inland field connects the Lomé–Cotonou corridor and surrounding communities. It fades toward the north rather than claiming uniform national dominance. The Beninese and Togolese recordings retain separate country scopes within this shared family entry.

== Artists ==
Rich Edem with Mme Pasteur Abitor Makafui, Rich Edem, Minister Matthieu, Abassi, Jessica, Soglo Apollinaire. Credits refer to the particular recordings below; a named uploader is not assumed to be the performer. These examples introduce a scene and do not assign an artist’s entire mixed repertoire to Gospel.

== Representative performances ==
The examples distinguish video publication from original repertoire and recording dates. Unknown dates remain unknown. Explicitly archival examples remain for reference and are excluded from geographic autoplay.
